Salvation mountain is located right outside of slab city. A supper creepy free RV park where snow birds flee during the winter months. The mountain was Leonard Knight’s tribute to God. It’s 50 foot height and 150 foot breadth is made totally of local adobe clay, straw, and 100,000 gallons of donated paint!
Leonard passed away in 2014 but there is now a charity set up to help preserve the site which needs constant upkeep do to the harsh surrounding environment. There was a donation box on site, so make sure to bring some cash when you come and help preserve this creepy and strangely beautiful piece of folk art.

I had never heard of this place! So strange and cool at the same time. Like a “Mad Max” movie on a happy acid trip lol.
