The best place to see manatees!
Hidden in a fairy like cove in Homosassa Florida is Three Sister Springs. During cold weather events manatees flock from kings bay into these coves for warmth. They Sleep in big cuddle huddles so the best time to come is early morning before they head back into the bay. The highest count of manatees ever recorded in the spring was 500! Since they use this spring as a refuge from cold weather there are very strict rules in place about disturbing them (you can read the rules and regulation here).
You’re able to visit these genteel giants three ways, in the water experience, kayaking, or by viewing deck. If your a Floridan and scared of cold weather and water like me choose kayaking. You can stay dry and bundled, but still get up close to see theses beautiful endangered species! If that’s still not close enough for just $54.00 you can embark on the most amazing in water experience to swim with the manatees! All gear is included, mask, snorkel, fins and wetsuit. They have different price options for heated and unheated boats that take you to the cove. You can get all the info HERE! If there is a big cold weather event happening the viewing deck is also a great option. They created a lovely walking path that wraps around the whole spring. There’s lots of different viewing angels and lookout points into the bay. You can purchase tickets at the Three Sister Springs Center for $15 and they will transport you via trolly to the spring. (there is no parking on site) Remember, no matter what the outside temperature is all florida springs stay at a consistently at 72 degrees year round!
