Legend has it
that a ship carrying two princesses sank during a great storm, on a full moon, off the Phra Nang headland. The princess’ spirits came to reside in these caves and, on each full moon, locals offer gifts to the spirits which are said to keep them safe from harm.
Tham Phra Nang Nok (Holy Princess Cave) is now a shrine dedicated to an ancient fertility goddess, some still refer to her as the sea princess. The cave is filled with phallic symbols covered with flower garlands, candles, and incense which are left as offerings believed to help with fertility problems, good fortune, & prosperity.
